Celina Texas History
Estabished in 1879, Celina Texas was named by John T. Mulkey after his home town Celina, Tennessee. In 1884 the town had a population of 150, but that declined considerably in 1892 to just 50 people. In 1902 the town moved to be closer to The Texas Railway.
In 1907 the town officially incorporated and in 1915 the Celina Pike opened. The Celina Pike was the first road in Collin County devoted exclusively for automobiles.
By the early 20s, Celina was thriving. In 1921 the Farmers Gas Company provided gas lighting to Celina. And they got electricity by 1924.
